The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released the notification for the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026 under Advertisement No. 16-Exam/2026, dated 1 August 2026. PET 2026 is the preliminary eligibility examination used by UPSSSC for shortlisting candidates for various Group ‘C’ Main Examinations – candidates must hold a valid PET score and meet the eligibility conditions specified in the relevant Main Examination advertisement. Important Dates

Candidates are advised to regularly check the official UPSSSC website for the exact exam date and admit card announcement, since neither has been finalized yet.

Application Fee

The fee can be paid through Credit Card, Debit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or SBI e-Challan (which can be downloaded and the amount deposited at an SBI branch). No payment method other than those specified by UPSSSC is accepted. Dependents of Freedom Fighters, Ex-Servicemen, outstanding sportspersons, and women candidates pay the fee applicable to their original category.

Age Limit & Total Posts

Age relaxation (in addition to the standard SC/ST/OBC relaxation as per applicable government rules):

• Eligible sportspersons: 5 years
• Eligible ex-servicemen: prescribed relaxation after adjustment for military service
• PwD candidates: 15 years
• Eligible UP state government employees: 5 years

UPSSSC PET 2026 Eligibility

• Educational Qualification: High School (Class 10) or an equivalent examination from a recognized board, obtained before the application deadline
• Higher qualifications: candidates with higher qualifications (Intermediate, Graduation, Post-Graduation, etc.) can also apply, provided they meet all other eligibility conditions
• Age: 18 to 40 years as on 1 July 2026, with relaxation for reserved and other specified categories (see above)
• One Time Registration (OTR): mandatory on the UPSSSC portal before applying for PET 2026 – the OTR system has been operational since 14 July 2026

What Does PET Qualify You For?

PET does not lead to a job by itself and carries no salary. PET itself is only an eligibility examination – salary, pay level, and allowances depend entirely on the specific post advertised through a subsequent UPSSSC recruitment notification. A valid PET score may be used for shortlisting in various UPSSSC Group ‘C’ recruitments, subject to the educational qualification, age, vacancy, category, and other conditions set out in each future recruitment advertisement – PET 2026 does not automatically qualify a candidate for any specific post or vacancy.

Your PET score remains valid for 3 years from the date the result is declared/uploaded on the Commission’s website. If you hold more than one valid PET score across different years, the highest valid normalized score may be used for applicable recruitment shortlisting.

UPSSSC PET 2026 Selection Process

Selection procedures vary by recruitment and are set out in each Main Examination’s own advertisement, but broadly follow this sequence:

• PET Written Examination – candidates receive a normalized PET score used for shortlisting in applicable future recruitments
• Post-specific Main Examination/selection stages as prescribed in that recruitment notification – which may include a skill/typing test, physical test, medical examination, document verification, or other post-specific stages

1. Visit the official UPSSSC website: upsssc.gov.in
2. Complete One Time Registration (OTR) if you haven’t already – this is mandatory before applying
3. Read the official PET 2026 notification (Advt No. 16-Exam/2026) carefully
4. Click on the “Apply Online” link for Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026
5. Log in using your OTR number or OTR-linked mobile number and OTP
6. Verify the details already populated from your OTR
7. Enter the remaining information required in the PET application
8. Submit the declaration to generate your PET registration slip
9. Pay the applicable category-wise fee online
10. After successful payment/reconciliation, download and print the completed application form for your records
